The best Stripe alternatives in 2026
Stripe is the default for developers, and it earned that. Businesses look for an alternative for one of three reasons: the rate, the wait for payouts, or the need for a bank account, cards and global payouts beside the processor. Here are the alternatives worth considering, judged on those, with the cases where Stripe is still the better choice said plainly.
- Anytime Capital Payments
- Square
- PayPal

- Braintree
- Helcim
- Shopify Payments
- Adyen
- Stripe
Updated October 2026. Figures from each company's published fees, terms and filings, and the public sources named on this page.
What is the best alternative to Stripe?
For lower fees and instant payouts without rebuilding your stack, Anytime Capital: 2.75% + 30¢ against Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢ (2.5% + 30¢ for the first 90 days), sales paid out instantly into a business bank account, with employee cards and payouts in 71+ countries on the same balance, and an API, webhooks and MCP server documented with copy-paste code. Square for a counter, PayPal or Braintree for PayPal and Venmo buttons, Helcim for interchange-plus pricing, Shopify Payments on a Shopify store and Adyen at enterprise scale.
How we judged them
All-in cost against Stripe
The rate on your typical sale against Stripe's published 2.9% + 30¢, plus any monthly plan.
Payout speed and its price
Stripe's standard schedule is 2 days for many US businesses, and Instant Payouts cost 1.5%.
A bank account beside it
Whether sales land somewhere they can be spent, or in a processor balance waiting for a transfer.
Developers and AI
An API, signed webhooks, docs you can paste and an MCP server for AI agents, so switching is an afternoon.

The picks
1. Best for a lower rate and instant payouts into a bank account
Anytime Capital Payments2.75% + 30¢ per card or wallet payment ($3.05 on $100 against $3.20 at Stripe), no monthly, setup or PCI fee, and 2.5% + 30¢ for the first 90 days. Payment links, invoices, subscriptions, website checkout and in-person scan-and-tap; settled sales land in your Anytime Capital business account instantly with no payout fee; employee cards, payouts on local rails in 71+ countries and crypto on the same balance. Its API is smaller than Stripe's, and it has no Connect for marketplaces.
See Anytime Capital Payments2. Best for selling at a counter
SquareFree point-of-sale software, a $59 reader and in-person rates of 2.4% to 2.6% + 15¢ make Square the easiest way to take cards in a shop. Online it is 3.3% + 30¢ on Free; 2.9% + 30¢ on Plus and Premium, so 2.9% + 30¢ online means paying $49 a month per location. Instant transfers cost 1.95%; there is no dispute fee today.
Square vs Anytime Capital3. Best for buyers who want a PayPal or Venmo button
PayPal
The button most US shoppers recognise, with Venmo and Pay Later built in. PayPal Checkout costs 3.49% + 49¢ ($3.98 on $100), international transactions add 1.5% and currency conversion carries a 3% spread. Worth offering as a button; expensive as your only processor.
PayPal vs Anytime Capital4. Best for PayPal, Venmo and cards in one API
BraintreePayPal's gateway at 2.89% + 29¢ for cards and wallets, with ACH at 0.75% capped at $5 and interchange-plus for established businesses. It needs a developer and has no in-person product, and does not publish an instant payout option.
Braintree vs Anytime Capital5. Best for the lowest blended rate with no monthly fee
Helcim
Interchange-plus with published margins and no monthly fee; Helcim's own figures put its US averages at about 1.78% + 8¢ in person and 2.29% + 25¢ online ($2.54 on $100), below any flat rate including ours. The bill moves with your customers' card mix, and payout timing is not published.
Helcim vs Anytime Capital6. Best for stores built on Shopify
Shopify PaymentsOn a Shopify store, any other processor adds a 2%, 1% or 0.6% third-party fee, so Shopify Payments is usually right there. Its Grow and Advanced plans price online cards at 2.7% and 2.5% + 30¢, at or below our standard rate, for $79 and $299 a month. Payouts take at least 3 business days.
Shopify Payments vs Anytime Capital7. Best for enterprise omnichannel retail
AdyenLocal acquiring in many markets and terminals and online on one platform, priced at interchange++ plus $0.13 and 0.60% to 0.80% for US Visa and Mastercard. Often the cheapest option at real scale, with a minimum monthly invoice that makes it a poor fit for small businesses.
Adyen vs Anytime Capital8. Best for staying put when you need Connect, Billing or Terminal
StripeStripe is still the better choice if you rely on its depth: Connect for marketplaces, Billing for complex subscriptions, Terminal hardware and the largest library of integrations in payments. At 2.9% + 30¢ with Instant Payouts at 1.5%, that depth has a price.
Stripe vs Anytime Capital
Why businesses look beyond Stripe
The rate: 2.9% + 30¢ on every domestic card, $1,450.30 a month on $50,000 in $100 sales. The wait: a 2-day standard schedule for many lower-risk US businesses, up to 14 days for higher-risk ones, and 7 days for a new account's first payout. The extra hop: Stripe pays out to a bank account you run elsewhere, with cards, bills and payouts abroad on another platform.
What you give up by leaving
Stripe Connect for marketplaces and platforms, Stripe Billing for complex usage-based subscriptions, Terminal hardware, Radar's machine-learning fraud scores and an integration for almost every tool. If any of those is load-bearing, keep Stripe for it and move the rest.
Switching without a rebuild
Swap Stripe Payment Links for Anytime Capital payment links, replace the checkout button with the Pay button snippet, and point webhooks at your new endpoint. Developers get a REST API with idempotency keys and signed webhooks, and the docs carry cURL, Node.js and Python examples to paste. An AI assistant can do most of it: the docs include an integration prompt, and the MCP server connects Claude, Cursor and other agents to payments, links and invoices.
