    Quick answer

How should an auto repair shop take payments?

Repair work usually has three money moments: the customer approves the estimate, pays a deposit for special-order parts, and pays the balance at pickup. With Anytime Capital Payments, the estimate goes out as a quote the customer accepts online, which becomes the invoice; the invoice asks for a parts deposit first and keeps the balance on the same invoice; and you can text the invoice link to a customer who is at work. At the counter, key in the amount and the customer scans and pays. It is 2.75% + 30¢ per payment, $18.62 on a $666 brake job. Square's in-person rate of 2.6% + 15¢ on its Free plan is lower, $17.47 on the same job, if you run a card reader at the counter.

    How it works

How a repair shop gets paid with Anytime Capital

    1. 01

      Estimates the customer approves online

Send the estimate as a quote, with parts and labor on separate lines and a valid-until date. The customer accepts or declines it from the link, the quote records who accepted it and when, and accepting turns it into the invoice, so you never retype a job.

    2. 02

A deposit for parts before you order them

The invoice asks for a fixed or percentage deposit first, so special-order parts are paid for before they arrive. The customer pays it by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank account, and the rest stays on the same invoice.

    3. 03

The balance, paid from wherever they are

When the car is ready, text or email the invoice link. The customer pays the balance from their phone at work or at home, the invoice shows what was paid and what remains, and reminders go out if it's late.

Or at the counter, without a terminal

Open In person on the service desk's phone or tablet, key in the amount and a note such as the vehicle, and the customer scans the code and pays with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card on their own phone.

Published US rates as of October 2026, before monthly plans, international cards, currency conversion, disputes and payout fees. New Anytime Capital businesses pay 2.5% + 30¢ for their first 90 days.

A shop taking $60,000 a month at an average of $400 pays $1,695.00 at 2.75% + 30¢, $1,785.00 at Stripe's published online rate and $2,025.00 at Square's Free-plan online rate. If every repair went through a Square reader at the counter, Square's in-person rate would come to $1,582.50, less than ours.

Fleet and commercial accounts can pay invoices by bank account, which costs far less than a card on large bills; our ACH rate is on the pricing page. Settings also let you pass a card processing fee on to people who pay by card, shown as its own line. Card-network rules and some state laws restrict that, so check them before you turn it on. Keep your shop management software

Anytime Capital doesn't write repair orders, look up labor times, order parts or run digital inspections. Keep your shop management software for that, and use Anytime Capital for estimates sent as quotes, deposits, invoices, counter payments and payouts. If your shop software only takes payments through its own processor, the quote, deposit and pay-by-link flow can still run here alongside it.

Some states set rules for written estimates, repair authorizations and invoices, such as listing parts and labor separately. An accepted quote records who accepted it and when, but check that your paperwork meets your state's rules. This is general information, not legal advice.
