How should a groomer or dog walker take card payments?
It depends on the job. Boarding and big grooms start with a deposit, sent as a single-use payment link that closes once it is paid. At pickup, key in the amount on a phone and the client scans and pays with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card, or use a checkout link with tips switched on. Regular walks suit a weekly plan that charges the client's card on its own. With Anytime Capital Payments it is 2.75% + 30¢ per payment, $2.91 on a $95 groom, with no monthly fee. Square's in-person rate of 2.6% + 15¢ on its Free plan is lower, $2.62 on the same $95, if you want a card reader at the counter.

Deposits that hold the booking
Text or email a single-use payment link for a boarding or grooming deposit, and it closes after the client pays. Ask up to three questions at checkout, such as the pet's name and any care notes, and require clients to agree to your cancellation and vaccination policy before they pay.

Check out at pickup, without a terminal
Open In person on any phone or tablet, key in the amount and a note such as the pet's name, and turn the screen around. The client scans the code and pays with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card on their own phone, and your screen turns to Paid.

Tips, and a receipt with your name on it
Switch tips on for a checkout link and keep its QR code on the counter: clients add 10%, 15%, 20% or their own amount. Every receipt carries your logo, your contact details, the client's answers such as the pet's name, and a thank-you message you write. (The In person keypad charges exactly what you key in, so use the tip-enabled link when you want the client to choose a tip.)

Regular walks, billed every week
Create a weekly or monthly plan for regular walks or daycare days and share its checkout link: the client's card is charged on schedule, and they change the card or cancel from your billing page. Prefer to bill after the fact? Send a recurring invoice with the week's walks on it.
