Tokocrypto was founded in Jakarta in 2018 by Pang Xue Kai and became one of the first exchanges registered with Bappebti, Indonesia's commodities regulator. Binance invested in 2020, took a majority, and bought the rest in 2022, making Tokocrypto a wholly owned Binance subsidiary with Binance's liquidity behind its rupiah pairs. In September 2024 it became the third exchange in Indonesia to win a full Physical Crypto Asset Trader license, and when supervision moved from Bappebti to the Financial Services Authority on January 10, 2025, it moved with it as an OJK-supervised exchange.
It is an Indonesian product from end to end. The only fiat currency is the rupiah. Verification requires a KTP, the Indonesian national ID card, matched to a tax number, or for foreign residents a passport with a residence permit. Deposits come from Indonesian banks and e-wallets. Every trade carries Indonesian VAT and the CFX exchange levy on top of the headline fee. There is no dollar market, no card checkout, and no path for a U.S. resident, which is why the American searches for it come from people who saw the Binance name attached.
