Brex vs Anytime Capital for small businesses

Brex built its product around venture-backed headcount: card policy, reimbursements, travel, approvals. If you run a twelve-person business, most of that machinery is solving somebody else's problem — and none of it touches cryptocurrency. Here is what changes when the crypto side gets its own account.

    What Brex Is Good For

    • Venture-backed and enterprise teams that want corporate cards, expense policy, and reimbursements in a single spend-management system.
    • Finance teams standardising global card issuance and travel booking across multiple entities and currencies.
    • Companies that need deep ERP and accounting integrations wired into an approvals workflow.

A card policy engine is not what a small business is missing

The pitch for a spend-management platform assumes a company with enough employees that uncontrolled spend is the risk. A small business usually has the opposite problem: two or three people spend money, everyone already knows what everyone bought, and the actual friction is elsewhere — getting paid, paying suppliers, and turning what comes in into usable dollars quickly.

When some of that flow is in cryptocurrency, Brex has nothing to offer, because it is not a crypto product. An Anytime Capital business account covers that half directly: 38+ assets to buy and sell, a free non-custodial wallet, supplier payouts in USDT and USDC, and same-day settlement back to your business bank by ACH, Fedwire or RTP.

What a small business actually needs from a crypto account

Small businesses get the worst of the current arrangement. The spend-management platforms are built around venture-backed headcount and card policy, which is not the problem a twelve-person contractor, agency, or storefront has. Meanwhile the crypto side gets improvised: an owner's personal exchange account, a wallet app on somebody's phone, and a shoebox of screenshots at tax time.

The needs are unglamorous and specific. Buy and sell without a minimum that assumes a Series B. Get dollars back into the business account the same day, not in three. Have somebody answer the phone. Keep the account in the company's name so the bookkeeper and the CPA can actually work from it.

No minimums, no waitlist, and a branch you can walk into

Most business accounts are approved the same day the application and KYB documents are complete. There is no waitlist and no requirement to be venture-backed — an LLC with clean formation documents is the ordinary case, not the exception.

Funding is deliberately broad because small businesses do not all bank the same way: business wire, business debit and credit cards, ACH, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, cash by mail, and in-person cash at our Atlanta and Miami branches. When crypto needs to become dollars again, settlement runs same-day by ACH, Fedwire or RTP, with cashier's checks and in-branch cash as alternatives.

Brex runs your dollars. It does not run your digital assets.

Brex is a spend-management platform: corporate cards, expense policy enforcement, reimbursements, travel, and business accounts, wrapped in the approvals and accounting integrations a finance team needs. For controlling what a company spends in US dollars, it is a mature and capable product, and nothing on this page argues otherwise.

What it does not do is cryptocurrency. Publicly, Brex offers no digital-asset trading desk, no custody or self-custody wallet, no on-chain payouts, and no route to convert crypto into dollars in your operating account. A company that holds, accepts, or pays in digital assets has to solve that somewhere else — usually on a personal exchange login belonging to a founder, which is precisely the arrangement that turns into a diligence problem later.

The practical answer is not to replace Brex. It is to run Anytime Capital beside it: cards and expense policy stay where they work, and the digital-asset side gets an account titled to the entity, with statements and settlement to match.

What a crypto-native company needs that a card platform cannot issue

Paying a contractor in Lagos or a research partner in Warsaw through international wires means days of latency and fees on both ends. Stablecoin payouts settle the same run in minutes, any day of the week — but only if you have somewhere compliant to hold and convert them. That is the gap between a spend-management platform and a crypto platform, and it is not a gap a card program closes.

Anytime Capital covers the whole loop: fund by business wire, business debit or business credit card, convert at desk-quoted rates across 38+ assets, pay out on-chain, and settle back to your business bank account the same day by ACH, Fedwire, or RTP. Vendors you pay repeatedly are saved as people — a name and a photo, with whitelisted addresses behind them — so nobody is pasting a 42-character string into a payment field at 6pm on a Friday.

Every business account also includes a free non-custodial wallet. Your company holds its own keys; the platform provides execution, liquidity, and settlement. No spend-management platform offers that, because it is not what they are built to be.

    Running Anytime Capital alongside Brex

The common setup among companies that use both: Brex issues the cards and enforces the expense policy, and Anytime Capital handles digital-asset treasury, on-chain vendor payments, and the off-ramp to USD. Two systems, two clear jobs, one clean set of records for the accountant.

Onboarding is not the bottleneck people expect. Most business accounts are approved the same day the application and KYB documents are complete — there is no waitlist — and complex entity structures take a few days rather than a few weeks.

    Brex vs Anytime Capital FAQ

Is Brex worth it for a small business?

That depends on whether uncontrolled card spend is a problem you actually have. Many small businesses find the policy and approvals layer is built for larger headcount. Either way it is a separate question from cryptocurrency, which Brex does not offer at all.

Can a small business get a crypto account without venture funding?

Yes. There is no funding requirement here. An LLC or corporation with clean formation documents and identifiable owners is the ordinary case, and most accounts approve the same day KYB documents are complete.

Can a small business open a crypto account without being venture-backed?

Yes. There is no requirement to have raised money. An LLC or corporation with clean formation documents and identifiable owners is the ordinary case, and most accounts approve the same day KYB documents are complete.

Is there a minimum to trade?

Small businesses are not held to institutional minimums. Larger orders get desk-quoted pricing rather than clicking through a screen, but the account is not gated behind a size requirement. See /fees-and-limits for current limits.

Can I deposit cash for my business?

Yes — in person at our Atlanta and Miami branches, or by cash by mail. That is a rail none of the digital-only business platforms offer.

    Does Brex support cryptocurrency?

Based on publicly available information, Brex does not offer cryptocurrency trading, custody, a self-custody wallet, or on-chain payouts as part of its platform. Companies that need digital-asset rails generally run a separate crypto account alongside it.

Is Anytime Capital a replacement for Brex?

For most companies, no — and we would not pitch it that way. Brex is a spend-management platform; Anytime Capital is a crypto platform for businesses. The common setup is to run both: Brex for cards and expense policy, Anytime Capital for digital-asset treasury, on-chain payments, and the off-ramp to USD.

What is the best Brex alternative for a crypto business?

It depends which half of Brex you are replacing. For corporate cards and expense policy, the alternatives are other spend-management platforms. For the cryptocurrency capability Brex does not have — trading across 38+ assets, a non-custodial wallet, stablecoin payouts, and same-day conversion to USD — Anytime Capital is built for exactly that.

Can my company pay vendors in stablecoins?

Yes. Anytime Capital supports on-chain B2B payments and stablecoin payroll in USDT and USDC. Recurring vendors are saved as named contacts with photos and whitelisted addresses, so paying them again does not mean re-entering a wallet address.

How fast can we open a business account?

Most business accounts are approved the same day the application and KYB documents are complete, with no waitlist. Complex entity structures can take a few days.

Is the account in the company's name?

Yes. Accounts are titled to the entity, with statements and settlement to match, rather than sitting on a founder's personal exchange login.
