OKX was founded in 2017 as OKEx by Star Xu, is operated globally by a Seychelles entity, and grew into one of the three or four largest exchanges in the world by volume, with more than 300 assets and customers in more than 100 countries. Its OKX Wallet is a self-custody wallet that connects to dozens of chains, and it has become a serious product in its own right. For years the exchange served U.S. customers it was not licensed to serve, and in February 2025 its operator pled guilty to running an unlicensed money transmitting business and paid about $505 million to the Department of Justice.
Two months later, in April 2025, OKX launched a licensed U.S. exchange from a new headquarters in San Jose under CEO Roshan Robert, migrating customers of Okcoin, its earlier U.S. brand. OKX Inc. is registered with FinCEN and licensed as a money transmitter in more than 40 states. It is not available in New York or Texas, and some sources list Hawaii, Kentucky, Nevada and West Virginia as excluded too. The U.S. product is custodial, priced like an exchange, and supported by chat.
Anytime Capital is a different kind of company. It is a U.S. money services business that sells to customers worldwide, with a storefront on Piedmont Road in Atlanta, an office in Miami's One Biscayne Tower, a phone number, (470) 748-2530, that reaches a person, and nine ways to pay, including cash and same-day wire. Coins are delivered to a non-custodial wallet you control. It is a place to buy, hold and cash out, not an order book. The crypto is the same; the history and the shape of the company are not.
