Bithumb's verification follows Korea's real-name account rule. You register with a Korean mobile number verified through a Korean carrier, confirm your identity with a resident registration number or Alien Registration Card, and link a KB Kookmin Bank account held in the same name. Since March 24, 2025 that bank has been Kookmin; before that it was NH NongHyup, and every customer had to open a new account and relink when the partnership changed. Koreans with an existing Kookmin account are typically approved within a day.
Foreigners face a wall. Bithumb announced in 2018 that it would bar foreign users who could not complete Korean mobile phone identification, and that policy has only tightened as regulators pressed Korean exchanges on KYC through 2025. A foreign resident of Korea with an Alien Registration Card, a Korean phone and a Kookmin account can qualify; a nonresident cannot, and the low-scoring Trustpilot reviews are dominated by SMS codes that never arrived on a foreign number.
Anytime Capital verifies customers with a government ID and a selfie, with additional checks for larger orders, and confirms eligibility for U.S. customers state by state. No Korean phone carrier or Korean bank is involved. If verification stalls, a person at (470) 748-2530 can see where it stopped.
