Verification
Coinbase KYC: what it asks for, how long it takes, and why it stalls
Yes, Coinbase requires KYC, and so does every legitimate platform. The difference between platforms is not whether they verify you but what happens when the automated check says no.
- Government ID, selfie and Social Security number on every U.S. account; source-of-funds questions on larger activity.
- Most U.S. accounts are approved in minutes; manual reviews and restricted-account appeals are the ones that run for days or weeks.
- Anytime Capital: verify online, or in person at the Atlanta branch

Ways to pay: Coinbase vs Anytime Capital
Payment methods live for a customer today
- Anytime Capital
- Coinbase
Anytime Capital: Apple Pay, Google Pay, Debit card, Credit card, ACH bank transfer, Wire transfer, Cash App, Cash in branch, Cash by mail, each priced as one all-in number from 4% on card orders with the spread included. Coinbase: 5 of those rails, priced a 3.99% fee on debit card purchases in the simple app, plus a spread of roughly 0.5% built into the quoted price, with network fee on crypto withdrawals; free ACH cash-out, $25 wire cash-out. Both exclude blockchain network fees. As of September 2026.
What Coinbase verification involves
Coinbase onboarding is the standard automated flow, tuned for a U.S. audience: email and phone, then your legal name, address, date of birth and Social Security number, then a photo of a government ID and a selfie. Most accounts are approved within minutes. Higher limits and certain activity, such as large deposits or frequent withdrawals, trigger source-of-funds questions and occasionally a request for bank statements.
The complaint that fills Coinbase's reviews is not the first verification. It is the second one, when an account that has been working for years is restricted for a review the customer cannot see, and the phone agent can only say that a specialist team will be in touch. Because Coinbase is custodial, the coins and the cash stay inside during that wait. Anytime Capital verifies identity too, as every U.S. money services business must, but the coins it sells are delivered to a wallet you control, so a later review never locks up what you already bought.
Why automated KYC fails good customers
Glare on a licence, a name that does not match the card, an address that changed last month, a selfie in poor light: automated systems reject all of these, and the customer gets a generic message. On Coinbase your recourse is to resubmit and queue for support. At Anytime Capital the same check runs online, but when it stalls you can call (470) 748-2530 and have someone tell you exactly what is wrong, or bring your documents to the Atlanta branch and verify across a desk.
A front door, not a chat window
Coinbase is built to be used through a screen. We are built to be visited. Bring cash, bring questions, or bring a problem another platform could not solve.

What verification unlocks
At Anytime Capital one verification opens crypto buying and selling, the FDIC-insured cash account with its free virtual debit card, the non-custodial wallet, and access to the OTC desk for larger orders. It is one identity check for the whole account, not a new hoop for every product.
Leaving Coinbase? Your wallet address works here too.
Verify once with your ID and a selfie, pick a coin, choose any of nine ways to pay, and paste any wallet address you control. Card and Apple Pay orders confirm in minutes; wires settle the same business day.
