Is Coinbase down? How to check, and what to do in the meantime
Every platform has bad days: a processor outage, an app that will not load, a withdrawal stuck on pending. If you are here because Coinbase is not working right now, you do not have to wait it out.
- Check Coinbase's own status page and social channels first
- Most "Coinbase is down" reports come from app slowdowns during sharp price moves, and from infrastructure incidents like the May 7, 2026 outage, when an AWS data-center failure in us-east-1 took trading, deposits and withdrawals offline for roughly eight hours.
- Anytime Capital: finish the order today by card, Apple Pay, ACH, wire or cash

Quick answer
Is Coinbase down right now?
Check Coinbase's status page and its X account for a posted incident, then try the web version directly rather than the app. Most "Coinbase is down" reports come from app slowdowns during sharp price moves, and from infrastructure incidents like the May 7, 2026 outage, when an AWS data-center failure in us-east-1 took trading, deposits and withdrawals offline for roughly eight hours. If you need the crypto today, Anytime Capital is a U.S. platform independent of Coinbase and its processors, and accepts card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, wire, Cash App and cash.

Ways to pay: Coinbase vs Anytime Capital
Payment methods live for a customer today
- Anytime Capital
- Coinbase
Anytime Capital: Apple Pay, Google Pay, Debit card, Credit card, ACH bank transfer, Wire transfer, Cash App, Cash in branch, Cash by mail, each priced as one all-in number from 4% on card orders with the spread included. Coinbase: 5 of those rails, priced a 3.99% fee on debit card purchases in the simple app, plus a spread of roughly 0.5% built into the quoted price, with network fee on crypto withdrawals; free ACH cash-out, $25 wire cash-out. Both exclude blockchain network fees. As of September 2026.
How to tell whether Coinbase is actually down
Start with status.coinbase.com, which Coinbase updates during incidents, and its social accounts. The large outages are real and well documented: on May 7, 2026, chiller failures in an AWS us-east-1 data hall took down Coinbase's matching engine and most customer-facing services for roughly eight hours, with full recovery taking longer. Coinbase published a postmortem. Smaller slowdowns during sharp price moves are more common and rarely make the status page.
If the site loads but your order or withdrawal fails, you are usually not looking at an outage. You are looking at a bank decline on a debit card, a restricted-account flag, or a withdrawal hold, and none of those clear when the status page goes green. Coinbase's phone line is the right first call for those. If what you need is to buy or sell today while Coinbase is unavailable, Anytime Capital's OTC desk and branch are open during business hours at (470) 748-2530.
- Status page and social channels: posted incidents
- Web version directly: rules out an app or wallet integration problem
- Payment fails but site works: processor or issuer, not an outage
- Order or withdrawal shows pending: review, not downtime; open a ticket
What to do if your Coinbase order is stuck
Do not resubmit the same payment, which can create duplicate holds. Take a screenshot of the order and its status, check your email for a document request, and open a support ticket with the order ID. Pending orders almost always resolve into either a completed purchase or a refund; they rarely disappear. If you needed the crypto for something time-sensitive, place the order somewhere that can confirm it today while the ticket works itself out. You can always send the second batch to the same wallet address.
