Braintree's published US pricing as of October 2026. Launch offer: 2.5% + 30¢ for your first 90 days, $2.80 on $100.
How Braintree's fee is worked out
Braintree charges 2.89% + 29¢ for cards and digital wallets: the amount × 0.0289 + $0.29. On a $150 sale that is $4.34 + $0.29 = $4.63, and you receive $145.37.
Cross-border payments stack. A card issued outside the US adds 1%, and charging in a currency other than USD adds another 1%, so a foreign card charged in euros costs 4.89% + 29¢: $5.18 on the equivalent of $100. Bank payments are far cheaper for large amounts: ACH is 0.75% capped at $5, so a $3,000 invoice costs $5.00 by ACH against $86.99 by card. Same-day ACH is 1.5% + 10¢.
What to charge so you receive an exact amount
Add the fixed fee to the amount you want and divide by one minus the percentage: charge = (target + $0.29) ÷ (1 − 0.0289). To receive $100, charge $103.27; to receive $1,000, charge $1,030.06. The calculator's “What to charge” mode does it for every Braintree rate, including the ACH cap.
Grossing up a price is different from adding a separate card surcharge. Surcharges are restricted by card-network rules and some state laws: they are capped, must be disclosed before payment and are not allowed on debit cards. Building the fee into your price, or invoicing large amounts by bank payment, avoids the question. This is general information, not legal advice.

The same sale with Anytime Capital
On published US card pricing the two are close. Braintree's 2.89% + 29¢ has the higher percentage and the 1¢ smaller fixed fee, so it costs less below about $7 a sale and more above it: $3.18 against $3.05 on $100, and $29.19 against $27.80 on $1,000. New Anytime Capital businesses pay 2.5% + 30¢ for their first 90 days.
The bigger difference is what comes with it. Braintree is a gateway for engineering teams that want cards, PayPal and Venmo in one API. Anytime Capital Payments takes payment links, invoices and in-person payments with no code, and settled sales land instantly in your Anytime Capital business account. If PayPal and Venmo in one integration is the point, Braintree is the better fit.
