Buying Crypto with a Discover Card

    Quick answer

Discover credit cards do not work for crypto: Discover's own policy declines digital-currency purchases on its credit cards, a stance it has held publicly since 2018. Discover Bank's debit card and ACH transfers are the workarounds — both work at Anytime Capital, as does every other bank's card.

    Discover's crypto policy, stated plainly

Discover is the clearest 'no' among the four US card brands: it declines cryptocurrency purchases on its credit cards as standing policy — leadership said as much publicly back in 2018, and the policy has outlasted every market cycle since. This isn't a fraud-hold you can call in about; the merchant category is blocked at the network-issuer level.

We'd rather tell you that on page one than let you burn an afternoon retrying a card that cannot work. It's Discover's decision, uniformly applied — no crypto platform can override it.

    What Discover customers actually do

Discover is also a bank, and Discover Bank's checking account comes with a debit card that spends your own balance — debit-funded crypto purchases are a different animal from credit and work at licensed platforms. Beyond the debit card: ACH from your Discover checking account, a wire transfer for larger amounts, or Apple Pay / Google Pay backed by any other card you hold.

At Anytime Capital, all of those routes are live: thousands of US customers, verification in minutes, pricing shown before you pay, and delivery to a wallet you control. Your Discover credit card can't buy crypto anywhere — but you certainly can.

    Will Discover ever allow it?

Card-brand policies do move — several 2018-era credit blocks at other issuers have softened into cash-advance treatment, and Discover's 2025 merger into Capital One puts its portfolio under an issuer with its own (also restrictive) crypto stance. We update this page when the policy changes; as of 2026, treat Discover credit as a firm no and route around it.

    Discover & crypto: your questions

Why was my Discover card declined for a crypto purchase?

Because Discover declines cryptocurrency purchases on its credit cards as standing policy — publicly stated since 2018. It isn't a fraud flag, and calling won't override it. Use a debit card, ACH, wire, or Apple Pay instead; all work at Anytime Capital.

Does the Discover Bank debit card work for crypto?

Debit is a different rail: Discover Bank's debit card spends your checking balance, and debit-funded purchases at licensed platforms are outside the credit-card block. Acceptance of the Discover network still varies by platform — where it isn't accepted, ACH from the same account is the clean route.

Can I use my Discover card indirectly — PayPal, Cash App, gift cards?

Funding intermediaries with a Discover credit card to buy crypto generally fails the same way (the block follows the merchant coding) or violates the intermediary's terms. Don't chase workarounds that can freeze accounts — a debit card or ACH is faster and safe.

Does the Capital One merger change Discover's crypto policy?

Not so far: Capital One completed its acquisition of Discover in 2025, and Capital One itself has blocked credit-card crypto purchases since 2018 — so the combined issuer's stance remains restrictive as of 2026. We'll update this page if it changes.

What's the fastest crypto route for a Discover customer?

Link your bank debit card (any US bank) or pay via Apple Pay / Google Pay at Anytime Capital — minutes end to end. For larger amounts, ACH or a wire from Discover checking works cleanly. Cash at our branches rounds out the options.
